Rare Carbon is Afnan's leather masculine and it has a character distinct from the Supremacy and 9PM lines. The opening is leather, violet leaf, nutmeg, and cinnamon — dry, dark, with the violet leaf adding a cool green quality that keeps the leather from going too warm in the first stage. This is how you open a leather fragrance: give it some contrast before the warmth arrives.
The Tom Ford Ombré Leather comparison gets made and it's structurally accurate — both are leather-led masculine fragrances with floral/spice accents. Rare Carbon is drier and slightly more aromatic, where Ombré Leather goes warmer and more resinous. The comparison is fair as a positioning reference but Rare Carbon is worth evaluating on its own terms rather than purely as a cheaper substitute.
The mid-stage reveals more complexity than the opening suggests. The spice notes (nutmeg and cinnamon) develop differently over time — nutmeg in particular reads differently at 30 minutes than it does at 2 hours, and the progression is one of the better things about this composition.
