Luna Rossa Discovery Set

The Luna Rossa line is one of the more interesting case studies in designer perfumery: one name, one bottle shape, and five fragrances that have almost nothing in common beyond the Prada DNA holding them together. Most people know one or two of them. Almost nobody has worn all five side by side — which is exactly the gap this set fills. The releases share a thread of iris and clean, slightly soapy Prada refinement, but the directions they take from there run from metallic-fresh to dark-patchouli to smoky-saffron. Owning the whole line is the only way to understand how far Prada stretched a single concept.

Luna Rossa Carbon EDT (2017) is the commercial anchor and the one most people meet first. It's built on a metallic-lavender opening over an ambroxan base, and it earns the Dior Sauvage comparison honestly — same clean, skin-amplifying ambroxan freshness, but smoother, soapier, and less aggressive. If Sauvage is slightly too loud or too omnipresent for you, Carbon is the refined alternative that occupies the same genre. Year-round versatility, 6–8 hours, and the most immediately recognizable opening in the lineup.

Luna Rossa Sport (2015) is the most misunderstood fragrance Prada makes. The name promises aquatic freshness; the juice delivers warm tonka, creamy lavender, and vanilla — squarely in Le Male territory but with a cleaner, soapier Prada finish. It's quieter and more sophisticated than Le Male, appropriate for occasions Le Male is too loud for, and it pulls "most compliments in my collection" reports from people who discover it by accident. Performance is genuinely good for an EDT at 8–10 hours on the older batches.

Luna Rossa Ocean EDP is the sweet one — grapefruit up top, frankincense and woods in the heart, and a vanilla-and-Amber-Xtreme base that turns addictive on the right skin. It's clean and uncomplicated in the best way, the kind of fragrance people reach for on automatic. The vanilla-amber drydown is the variable: it reacts differently on different chemistry, which is exactly why a decant is the responsible first step.

Luna Rossa Black EDP is the outlier. Where the rest of the line is fresh and clean, Black is dark, smooth, and intimate — patchouli, coumarin, and amber built for evenings and close proximity rather than daytime projection. It's the Luna Rossa for cold-weather nights, and it's the one most likely to surprise someone who thinks they already know the line.

Luna Rossa Ocean Le Parfum is the one that catches everyone off guard. Despite the Ocean name, there is nothing aquatic here — it's a warm, smoky saffron-and-oakwood parfum with a lemon top that burns off fast. The saffron runs from the first spray to the last hour. At parfum concentration it lasts 9–12 hours and rewards a two-spray maximum. It is the most distinctive and the most polarizing fragrance in the set.

Why the decant format makes sense here: these five fragrances occupy completely different lanes, and three of them — Ocean EDP, Black, and Ocean Le Parfum — have a documented skin-chemistry or expectation variable that a single counter spray can't resolve. A decant of each, available in 5ml, 10ml, or 20ml, gives you real wear time across all five before deciding which Luna Rossa earns a full boutique bottle. At $90–$185 per bottle, that's the only sensible way to approach the line.

Clean, bright, and slightly peppery, with the metallic-lavender character that defines Carbon arriving almost immediately. This is the most distinctive opening in the line.

Prada Luna Rossa Sport

A warm, lightly spiced opening — cleaner and more inviting than the name suggests. Ginger adds a gentle bite, juniper a crisp greenness.

Heart: Lavender · Iris

Creamy lavender and soapy Prada iris — the phase that connects Sport to Le Male's tonka-lavender DNA while keeping a more sophisticated finish.

Base: Vanilla · Tonka Bean

Sweet, clean, and quietly addictive. The vanilla-tonka base is the reason Sport gets called the most underrated Luna Rossa. On skin: 8–10 hours on the older batches.
