Top: Cardamom · Tangerine · Bergamot
Heart: Lavender · Sage · Violet Leaf
Base: Benzoin · Cedar · Patchouli
👑 Cardamom, tangerine, bergamot, lavender, sage, violet leaf, benzoin, cedar, and patchouli — "Rabanne finally made a non-super-sweet, non-synthetic, non-juvenile smelling fragrance; Royal is the best blended and smoothest overall in the line; benzoin as the sweet accord instead of fruit keeps it from the bubblegum trap; very versatile and underrated, lasts forever on clothes" from the Fragrantica reviewer who found the composition's most important positioning
🏆 The 1 Million for collectors who want the family name with none of the family's notorious sweetness — benzoin-forward warmth over fruit, lavender-sage aromatic complexity over cinnamon-spice punch, the most "grown-up" entry in the 1 Million catalog and the one most commonly compared to JPG Le Male Elixir for sharing DNA architecture without being a clone
🔍 Decanted from authenticated Paco Rabanne 1 Million Royal gray-market stock — bottle construction, fill level, and juice character verified before entering the Aromatick catalog; authentic Puig composition at below-boutique pricing
💸 1 Million Royal boutique retail: $110–$150 (100ml) — same formula at gray-market pricing; the decant for collectors comparing Royal against Le Male Elixir, the original EDT, and the spiced-aromatic masculine category at the designer tier
⚡ Year-round versatile; fall and winter peak — masculine, suitable for all ages — 10–12 hrs — moderate projection; "lasts forever on clothes" — 2–3 sprays — safe blind buy for benzoin-lavender-sage fans; not blind-buy safe for those expecting the original EDT's fruit-citrus DNA; completely different character

Longevity, skin chemistry, the collector's take, and how we authenticate.
1 Million Royal arrived in 2023 as the most compositionally mature and most category-departing release in the 1 Million family's history. Where every previous flanker — Lucky, Parfum, Elixir, Intense — amplified some aspect of the original's sweet-spicy-citrus DNA, Royal deploys benzoin as its primary sweet accord instead of fruit, lavender and sage as its aromatic heart instead of rose and cinnamon, and a violet leaf-cedar-patchouli structure that earns "the best blended and smoothest overall in the line" from the community that has worn every entry and places Royal at the top of the technical execution hierarchy.
The Le Male Elixir comparison is the community's most consistent reference point for Royal and earns careful engagement. Le Male Elixir — Quentin Bisch's 2023 composition for JPG — deploys lavender, mint, honey, and tobacco in a warm, slightly gourmand, highly projective composition. Royal shares the lavender-benzoin-warm aromatic architecture with Elixir at a surface level, and "smells almost fully identical to Le Male Elixir" from the Fragrantica reviewer who drew the comparison directly. The more careful community assessment: "Not as vanilla forward as Le Male Elixir, but just as sweet; I can see the comparisons but being a fan of the profile and both fragrances, I can spot the slight differences." Both are worth owning. The Elixir is more projective and more explicitly seductive; Royal is more balanced and more broadly versatile.
The benzoin is Royal's most technically important ingredient and the compositional decision that most clearly defines the flanker's identity within the lineup. Benzoin — a warm, slightly vanilla-adjacent, balsamic resin — provides sweetness that is "not as juicy and syrupy as regular vanilla or tonka bean" but rather "slightly vanillic, slightly resinous, slightly animalic" in a way that earns "toned-down sweetness compared to the other flankers" as its defining characteristic relative to the lineup. Combined with the lavender-sage aromatic heart and the dry-woody-earthy patchouli base, the benzoin creates what the Fragrantica community describes as "a cocoa butterish smell" at the drydown — warm, complex, quietly sophisticated.
The performance credentials are Royal's strongest practical argument. "Lasts forever on clothes" and "performance is good, lasts very long and projects very well" from the community's performance documentation — the 10–12 hour skin longevity places Royal alongside Parfum at the top of the 1 Million longevity hierarchy. The projection is moderate rather than aggressive, which contributes directly to the "versatile" and "swiss army knife" assessments from reviewers who found the original EDT's notorious projection more limitation than asset. For the collector who wants the Million name at office and formal appropriate application, Royal earns the recommendation that no other entry in the lineup can match.
🔺 The Scent Pyramid
Top Notes (0–20 min)
Cardamom · Tangerine · Bergamot
The opening is the composition's most clearly 1 Million-family chapter. Cardamom provides warm, slightly green, aromatic spice; tangerine adds bright, slightly sweet citrus; bergamot contributes clean, slightly floral citrus brightness. The combination is "sweet and fruity" but with the "hint of the fruity/bubblegummy sweetness that ties it to the 1 Million line but is almost unnoticeable due to benzoin being the main sweet accord." The first 20 minutes is where the composition most resembles its family — after that, the departure begins.
Heart Notes (20 min–2 hrs)
Lavender · Sage · Violet Leaf
The composition's most distinctive and most category-departing chapter. Lavender provides cool, aromatic, slightly herbal warmth — the note that earns the Le Male Elixir comparison and places Royal in the aromatic fougère register. Sage adds dry, slightly herbal, green-grey depth; violet leaf contributes a slightly aquatic, slightly metallic green freshness. "The lavender cardamom and light sage keeping it fresh; very versatile and underrated" — the aromatic heart is Royal's most technically accomplished chapter and the one that most clearly earns "different from all the others in the line."
Base Notes (2 hrs through 10–12 hrs)
Benzoin · Cedar · Patchouli
The base is the composition's warmest and most persistently present chapter. Benzoin is the dominant note — warm, slightly sweet, balsamic, "mixed with the patchouli gives off a cocoa butterish smell." Cedar provides clean, dry woody structure; patchouli adds earthy, slightly dark depth. "Extremely heavy on benzoin — by far the most dominant and linear note" — in the best possible way. The benzoin-patchouli combination creates the warm, slightly animalic, quietly sweet character that earns "lasts forever on clothes" from the performance documentation.
What it smells like on skin:
The cardamom-tangerine-bergamot opening is familiar to 1 Million wearers — slightly sweet, slightly fruity, warmly spiced. After 20 minutes the lavender-sage heart reveals Royal's true character: aromatic, slightly herbal, warmly sophisticated in the fougère tradition. The benzoin-patchouli base is the composition's most enduring chapter — warm, slightly sweet, cocoa-butterish, quietly present for hours without assertiveness. The collector who wants the 1 Million family DNA in its most genuinely mature expression has their composition.
Performance & Wear Guide
- Longevity: 10–12 hours on skin. "Lasts forever on clothes" — among the strongest fabric longevity in the 1 Million lineup alongside Parfum.
- Projection: Moderate. "Projects very well" without being room-filling. More intimate than the original EDT and Elixir — appropriate for enclosed spaces and office environments.
- Sillage: Above average designer tier. Creates a warm, pleasant scent presence rather than an unavoidable announcement. Compliment factor reported as 9/10 from community tracking.
- Season: Year-round versatile. Fall and winter peak. More manageable in summer than most entries in the lineup due to the dry aromatic character rather than heavy sweetness.
- Occasion: The lineup's most occasion-versatile entry. Office, casual, evening, formal — Royal's moderate projection and aromatic-rather-than-sweet character earns it where the original EDT cannot go.
- Application: 2–3 sprays. The most restrained 1 Million in terms of over-application risk — the benzoin base is warm but not aggressive, and additional sprays add depth rather than overwhelm.
- Age read: "Good for young and old adults, this fragrance doesn't carry any age" — the most genuinely age-neutral entry in the lineup.
Performance varies with skin chemistry and ambient temperature. Apply to pulse points.
